FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone over the eastern Tasman Sea extends across New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies predominating about the coast and plains, light or moderate variable winds elsewhere; variable cloud with isolated showers; mild day temperatures. Buller and North Westland.—Light or moderate variable winds; partly cloudy and mild. South Westland.—Moderate northerlies predominating; rather cloudy with moderate temperatures; isolated showers at first, but later some scattered rain. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh northerlies by this afternoon in Cook Strait but elsewhere winds light or moderate and variable, with sea breezes by day in many coastal regions; some cloudy areas with isolated showers but weather mainly fine: mild during the day near the coast; warm inland. Outlook.—Some rain in South Westland with scattered rain spreading later to North Westland; elsewhere mainly fair weather. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
