Election In Cyprus
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright NICOSIA, Jan. 20.
Vice-President Fadi Kutchuk, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, announced today that Turkish Cypriots would vote in a Vice-presidential election on February 25, the date when Archbishop Makarios will seek re-election as President of Cyprus. Dr Kutchuk said he took this decision in accordance with the constitutional provision which specified that the Greek Cypriots should elect the President and Turkish Cypriots the Vice-presi-dent of Cyprus.
At the same time, he accused the Greek Cypriots of acting in contravention of the constitution in arranging the re-election of President Makarios, who, it is expected, will not face opposition in the election.
