Girl On Bail Got Job As Stripper
(N.Z. Press Association) HAWERA, Jan. 16. A 17-year-old Wellington night club stripper, February Paraha, and John Patrick Devine, aged 22, an unemployer bricklayer, pleaded guilty to separate charges of breaking and entering a Hawera clothing shop with intent to commit a crime, when they appeared before Mr A. W. Yortt, S.M., today. Detective-Sergeant R. Q. Petherick said Paraha had given up her job as a student nurse in Wellington and had travelled to Hawera with Devine. On the night of December 28 they broke through a wire grille and the plate glass doors at the back of Hallenstein Brothers, Ltd. They removed clothing and suitcases worth $516.91. There was some damage and restitution of $98.88 was sought. The couple had been located at Patea on December 29 while hitch-hiking back ■ to Wellington. Devine said he had been out of work for some time and had not been able to find suitable work. Paraha said she had intended going to Australia. She had saved $6O and had left her job as a student nurse to get a better paid job. Sine* being remanded en
ball on the present charge she had got work as a stripper at the Club Exotique. The Magistrate: You’re the exotic part, I suppose. How many strippers are there? Paraha: About eight. The Magistrate: And how much do you get?—£l2 a week. Paraha said, under further questioning, that she stripped three times a night, five nights a week. Devine was fined $2OO and ordered to make restitution of $66. He was placed on probation for two years and ordered to live and work as directed by the probation officer. Paraha was fined $5O, and ordered to make restitution of $33. She was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to liv* and work as directed.

Nastase. 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0. A. Metreveil (Russia) retained the Aslan singles title, defeating Tlriac, 8-6, 6-3, 6-4. Davis Cup Cntry.—The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia has provisionally accepted Britain for the 1968 Davis Cup competition, but it reserved the right to withdraw Britain s entry if Britain is ruled Ineligible to compete by the Davis Cup European Zoning Committee.
