Tennis Men Turn Pro.
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY. The Australian Davis Cup players, J. D. Newcombe and A. D. Roche, yesterday signed professional contracts with the World Championship Tennis Incorporated of America. Newcombe's guaranteed minimum of $U5135,000 is the highest sum to be paid to a tennis player turning professional. Newcombe and Roche will make their professional debuts in Sydney on January 20. Both contracts are for three years. World Championship Tennis inc., a newly-formed organisation, already has recruited R. Taylor (Britain). C. S. Drysdale (South Africa), N. Pilie (Jugoslavia) P. Barthes (France).
