SWEPT BY RIVER
Boy Of 5 Drowned (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, Dec. 28. A five-year-old boy was swept away and drowned in the Ngaruroro river at Femhill, near Hastings, yesterday afternoon. He was Peter Rongotoa, son of Mrs C. Rongotoa, a widow with nine other children, who lives at Omaha pa. Two other children died some time ago. The boy was in the water under the Femhill bridge playing with a group of other children when he was swept away about 3.15 p.m. A Wanganui visitor, Edward Morley, saw the boy disappear and told the police. Holiday-makers in the vicinity and people from the nearby Omahu Pa began a search. A party of police from Hastings. Taradale and Napier joined about 100 people in a search for the boy. His body was found about three hours later about three miles downstream.
