Arkle, which fractured a foreleg at Kempton Park, Lon don. a year ago. will not return to racing early next year as planned, it was announced yesterday. A decision on whether the 10-year-old Arkle will resume full training has now been postponed for some months. The veterinary adviser, Mr J. S. Cosgrove, said: “The recent series of X-ray plates taken of Arkle’s pedal bone indicate that repair is as yet incomplete and that active healing is still taking place. There would be an element of risk in embarking on a spring racing programme.” Arkle has won over $160,725 in prize money and proved himself the outstanding steeplechaser of the century in Britain and Ireland.
