Indonesian Visitor
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 27. The Indonesian Foreign Minister (Dr Adam Malik) was expected to visit New Zealand in 1968, a Government spokesman said tonight.
However, the visit was still not definite and no dates or itinerary had been set yet, he said.
Dr Malik is believed to be planning a visit to Australia in either February or April, 1968. and is expected to spend some time in New Zealand on his way home. Indonesia recently opened an Emirassy in Wellington and Dr Malik’s visit will be aimed at cementing closer links between the two countries. If Dr Malik does visit New Zealand his talks with Government officials here would cover New Zealand’s economic aid to South-East Asia and the region’s political situation.
Australia and New Zealand are believed to figure prominently in plans of the Indonesian leader. General Suharto, to seek greater economic aid from developed nations.
Business leaders from both countries played a leading role in discussions held at a Pacific business conference in Sydney last year. The reorganisation of the Indonesian
economy dominated the threeday conference. Indonesian delegates at the conference expressed keen appreciation of the interest shown by Australian and New Zealand businessmen in helping to restore their economy.
