NASSELLA SEARCH

More Found Near Pass

More nassella tussock was found yesterday near the 50acre block discovered at the top of Evans Pass last week.

The area in the Lyttelton Borough was searched by the Banks Peninsula Noxious Weeds Committee’s Inspector (Mr H. W. Fawcett) and the Paparua County inspector (Mr F. E. Hoskin). In what is known as the Quarry block, one mature plant and two seedlings were found. Between this point and Godley Head Road 10 mature tussocks and two seedlings were found.

“It is extremely steep country, and our job is not made easier by rank grass,” said Mr Fawcett last evening.

Mr Fawcett said that Mr W. Morgan, manager of the farm on which the 50-acre block was found, had searched towards Taylor’s Mistake without finding any more nassella. Today a search will be made of the hillside above Lyttelton. The search will then extend to Mount Pleasant and the Heathcote area.
