Bar Hours Popular
When the Canterbury Hotel at Lyttelton opened at 8 a.m. yesterday for the first time since permission was granted to amend its hours, a dozen customers were waiting. This number grew to more than 70 an hour later and by noon, when most of the port had closed, the main bar was packed. The proprietor, Mr A. Scott, was recently granted permission to alter his hours (11 a.m. to 10 p.m.) to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the public interest, by the Licensing Committee.
Although yesterday was not a normal day because of its proximity to the holidays, there was every indication that the amended hours were very popular.
