‘Passenger Capsules’ For Air Freighters
(New Zealand Frees Association) WELLINGTON, December 3. Self-contained “passenger capsules” maybe used inside Safe Air’s Bristol freighters when the company shortly begins its regular passenger and freight service between Wellington and the Chatham Islands.
The Department of Civil Aviation is studying drawings of the proposed “passenger capsules” which have been submitted by Safe .Air 1 for testing and approval. The department . said the capsules completely selfcontained pasnnger cabins designed to fit snugly into the fuselage of a Bristol—will be heated, air-conditioned and insulated against noise. They will have a galley and an attendant. The capsule will normally
bold 12 pasengers and an attendant—but may be extended by the addition of another compartment to hold 20. It is designed to be roiled into the freighter fuselage, and withdrawn when the aircraft is wanted for freight alone. Windows in the capsule will line up with those in the aricraft fuselage. Passengers will enter from a door in the rear of the aircraft and through another door into the capsule.
