Clash Near Con Thien
(N Z PA.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, December 1.
Fifteen United States marines were killed and 53 wounded yesterday in a resumption of fighting near Con Thien, below the demilitarised zone, where some of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam war took place in September, a United States military spokesman said in Saigon today. The clash came in the early afternoon, when a North Vietnamese company opened fire on patrolling marines. The spokesman said the North Vietnamese troops were in heavily-fortified, wellcamouflaged bunkers. Three other marine companies joined the action. When the fourth company charged the North Vietnamese withdrew, leaving behind 26 dead, as well as some weapons.
