The Maori people had obtained their houses through State Advances loans, State rental, and toe Maori Affairs Department’s programme, toe Minister went on. “State Advances loans and rental houses are available to all New Zealanders,” be said, “but because there are proportionately more Maoris in
toe low-income group, they receive more State rental houses.”

Next year there would be about 270, of whom 204 would be training for toe first time. “There were 1072 Maori registered apprentices at March 31 this year, which means there are more than 1500 young Maori men in training as tradesmen, compared with only 440 in May, 1959,” said Mr Hanan.
