Further Rise In Prices (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 1. A short supply and jrumours of further shortages caused retailers to pay still higher prices for all commodities at Smithfield market on Monday, the Meat Board reports. From Tuesday, a much reduced retail interest and the cessation of the dock strike brought about some sharp price reductions.
Quotations for New Zealand lamb opened on Monday at the top end of the following ranges and closed at the end of the week at the lower end, with a weak undertone particularly for F.A.Q. 281 b and under. z Price Range Quotations for New Zealand lamb were:—
Prices for Irish fresh and Argentine chilled beef fell sharply, and quotations for English lamb eased markedly.
Hawkins Div. Steady
Hawkins Holdings, Ltd, Hamilton construction company, had a pattern of turnover and profit for the' six months to September 30 similar to that in previous years, directors say in an interim report.
They warn of caution for the future unless the Government immediately releases more construction contracts in and about Waikato.
A steady interim dividend of 5 per cent is payable December 15, ex December 11. Last year’s total dividend was 10 per cent.
