MOTZ ‘SOCKS’ THE MOST

(From

D. J. CAMERON)

KYABRAM (Victoria). R. C. Motz, the big-hitting New Zealand all-rounder, was a clear winner in the “socks stakes” held by the touring New Zealanders when they played Victorian Country at Kyabram yesterday.

The New Zealanders were promised a pair of socks for every four they hit in the match. Motz’s share of the prizes was 10 pairs of socks—and a shirt for the best innings of the day. His 76, which included six fours and four sixes, was top score in the match, won by the New Zealanders. In one over from the offspinner, D. Shaw, Motz stopped the first ball and then hit the next seven for 6,6, 4,6, 4,4, 6. He raced to 50 in 17 minutes but it was too good to last, and after a couple of chances, he was out at 76, scored in 45 minutes. J. C. Alabaster, who took four wickets, won a shirt for the best bowling performance and also three pairs of socks for the boundaries he hit. Scores:—
