Dyers Road Speed Limit
Sir—ln spite of well-foun-ded objections by residents of the Bromley district, the City Council has reaffirmed its decision to rezone Dyers Road as a 40 m.p.h. area. To bolster its decision, the council quotes an average speed of 39 m.p.h. with only three injuries over a period of some years. These were three injuries too many. The whole thing boils down to the fact that the traffic department of the City Council is unable to enforce its own by-laws. If the traffic department is aware of an average speed of 39 m.p.h, why was it not patrolling the area to enforce the speed limits? If it had done so, possibly an unfortunate accident which happened on Saturday would not have occurred an accident in which three residents required treatment at hospital, not to mention the three occupants of the other car. So much for statistics.—Yours. R. POTTS. November 28, 1967.
