Plebiscite To Be Held (N.Z. P.A. -Reuter— Copyright > NEW YORK, Nov. 27. Micronesia, a group of more than 2000 South Pacific islands with a population of 93,000, is to have a plebiscite before June 30, 1972, to decide whether it wants independence or continued association with the United States. This was revealed in New York by Mrs Eugenie Anderson, the United States delegate to the United Nations Trusteeship Council and a former American Ambassador to Denmark. The United States was given the trusteeship of Micronesia in 1947 by the United Nations after the Second World War. Previously the Japanese held a mandate over the territory.
