Little Information On N.Z., Tourists Say
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. Scant information about New Zealand at American travel agencies is not helping the New Zealand tourist trade, according to two American business men visiting Auckland. Mr E. A. Lucas, a Los Angeles electronics engineer, and Mr J. C. Wilfong, a Pasadena stockbroker, said little information on New Zealand was available at leading agencies in both their cities. “If you want to build up your tourist trade.” said Mr Lucas, “you are going to have to supply much more detailed information at the American agencies. “When you do this you will have us over here in our thousands.” S.I. Roads “Risky” ! Mr Wilfong said he was told by one travel agent that the roads in the North Island were good but that travelling by road in the South Island was risky. “This is nonsense,” he said. “Your roads are excellent.” Mr Lucas said he had not been able to find out whether there were any motels in New Zealand. “I come here and find they are comparable with anything in the States,” he said. “It is a pity that this sort of information is not available back home.
"This is a wonderful place —beautiful lakes and mountains, green country—everything the American tourist is looking for. The service and accommodation at hotels are very good and so is the food.” Boiled Eggs Their only criticisms: Softboiled eggs at hotels were hard and no water was put out with meals. Their other suggestion: Keep bass out of the lakes. They will eat all the trout. You can go anywhere in the United States and catch a 10pound bass but not a fourpound rainbow trout.
