A class at the Ashgrove School, Rangiora. has obtained the signature of Sir Francis Chichester—and without having to pay £5 for it as some others have had to do. The Standard 2-4 class, under its teacher, Miss J. Wright, made a project of Sir Francis Chichester’s voyage around the world: when the class heard of his knighthood it wrote congratulating him. About three months
later a reply was received in the form of a card with a photograph of the Gipsy Moth rounding Cape Horn and a brief account of the voyage. It concluded with the signature “Francis Chichester.” Sir Francis Chichester normally gives his autograph only “if people pay for it.” The money raised in this way goes to providing bursary places on Outward Bound courses at the navigation school, Plymouth.
