Fast Mile By Cup Entrants
Time and Tide and Sir Limond heightened interest in their clash in the Hororata Cup next week by running the fastest mile of the training at Riccarton yesterday.
They dashed over a mile on the trial grass in Imin 41 3-ssec. Not surprisingly, they showed signs of tiredness close to home after reeling off the first half mile in 49 3-ssec.
A. J. Stokes rode Time And Tide ,and W. H. Beck was on Sir Limond. FOR GREYMOUTH
Next Please shaped as if he will be a strong lightweight contender for Greymouth Cup honours on Saturday in his mile gallop with his stablemate, Blind Date.
Ridden by his trainer, R. B, Taggart, Next Please was at a disadvantage in the
weights, but he finished close up on Blind Date. After a slow first furlong they did well to record Imin 44 4-ssec for the mile, with the last half in 50sec.
Krazikid was two lengths ahead of Royal Encounter after nine furlongs on the plough in Imin 59 l-ssec, the last four in 54 l-ssec. Anasiwa kept up with his stablemates for a time, but he is a sluggish worker, and dropped far behind in the straight. Krazikid, L. Jackson’s mount in yesterday’s gallop, has done most of his racing as a sprinter, but is to be tried over a bit of ground in the Hororata Cup. Kalimera (A. Swanson) was going well alongside her stablemate, Seminole (A. J. Stokes), finishing seven furlongs on the plough in Imin 31 4-ssec, the last four in 52 2-ssec. EASY SOLO TASKS

Running Waters (Stokes) was going well just ahead of Danny Kaye (C. Plowman )j after running half a mile, but they were restricted to 53 2-ssec.

y a half mile on the plough tn r- 49 3-ssec. Manana (Stokes) ran three
furlongs on the plough in 41 l-ssec. He may be switched back to sprinting at the Hororata meeting. He won last start in the high-weight on the final day of the New Zealand Cup meeting.
