Jazz Brilliant In Awapuni Gallop
"The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Palamos and Jazz were in dashing form at Awapuni yesterday. Palamos is preparing for the Celebrity Stakes at Wanganui next week. Jazz which ran a near-record five furlongs on the plough, will race at the Otaki meeting before the Great Northern Derby and other events at Ellerslie. On the course proper, Palamos had no trouble in beating Aku Hoa and Viceroy over half a mile in 51sec, the last three m 38 2-.ssec. Might ran five furlongs in 1:6 and ran the last three strongly in 39sec. He is in good order for the sprint at Woodville. Prince d’Amour went seven furlongs in 1:32 2-5, the final three in 41sec. On the inside trial, Both Ways impressed over the last four of five furlongs in 51sec. The New Zealand Derby winner, Jazz, ran the fastest gallop for years on the plough when she clocked 1:0$ for five furlongs, the last three in 37$sec. Laramie ran three furlongs in 37sec. He was scratchy until he
warmed up. The Manawatu and Wellington Cups will; be on his programme, but hard tracks could be against him from now on. He worked over half a mile in 52 l-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec.
