“Mona Vale” Appeal Reaches $66,000
The appeal fund for “Mom Vale” stood at $66,386, said Mr John Oakley, chairman of the appeal committee, yesterday.
Contributions received through the mail were $1790, booths had provided $B4O, and the “mini-committee” had been responsible for raising $lll. Mr Oakley said he was delighted to announce two more donations from Christchurch firms—J. Ballantyne and Company, Ltd, had given $5OO and Kreglinger (N.Z.), Ltd, woolbrokers, had also given $5OO. There was also a gift of $lOO
from Weston, Ward and Lascelles, solicitors. He said a gift of $5OO announced yesterday should have been stated as coming from Mr and Mrs S. G. Bowron. Seven firms had joined the offer of M. O’Brien and Company, to give $5OO if nine others would do the same. Representatives of the Mormon Church yesterday expressed concern at the number of people visiting “Mona Vale,” said Mr Oakley. Last Sunday, the number of visitors had almost been as great as those on recent open days. A sign at the entrance saying that it was private property had been removed without authority and the occupiers of the house were distressed at the intrusion.
