Noisy Exhausts
Sir,—Would it be possible for the transport authorities to enforce the present law on noisy exhaust systems, which seem to be on the increase, mostly by young enthusiasts who wish to be heard as well as seen! With the holiday period approaching I am sure every sensible person would appreciate swift action by the department.—Yours, etc., P. L. BASHFORD. November 13, 1967. [The district officer of the Transport Department (Mr D. L. Hogan) replies: “Traffic officers are conscious of this problem, which is not easy to eliminate. Over the last few months between 15 and 20 drivers a month have been apprehended for this offence by officers of the Transport Department, and I understand that a like number have been dealt with by the Christchurch City Council officers.”]
