The Middle East
Sir,—“Nasser adamant on Canal,” is your heading on Satvrday. Why do we have to put up with people like Nasser in the world? Outgeneralled, outfought, and utterly beaten by the Israelis, he now has the nerve to be adament about the Suez Canal because be has had time to rebuild his forces with the help of Russia, and moreover knows that if the Israelis went to war about this particular matter there would be a deafening clamour from the unthinking mobs of the world. I sincerely hope that the Israelis will be adamant, too, and that all decent people will support them. Why can not we all get together and oust Nasser?—Yours, etc., SPENCER VINCENT. Waihao Downs, November 26, 1967.
