Lu Filou Picked To Win Plate Again

“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Every indication is that G. F. Hughes has returned from Australia just in time to take another successful mount on Lu Filou, in the Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa today.

Hughes, for years one of the most accomplished jockeys, will be trying to win his sixth Foxbridge Plate and second with Lu Filou.

Hughes got Lu Filou home by three-quarters of a length last year from Gold Chick. He won the very first race on Mainbrace and, in between times scored on Takatu, Syntax, and Lampada. Lu Filou has been out of form since he resumed racing for the season with a sprint at Tauranga in August. But he showed improvement last time, when fifth over a mile at Ellerslie on November 4. Everything meanwhile suggests he has further improved. Hughes rode Lu Filou in each of his three wins last season.

Fairfleet and Rainfall could be Lu Filou’s strongest rivals. The first leg of the T.A.B. double, tbe Miller Mile, is very open. Pheroz Pride, Super Count, and Bardowie are among the prospects, but if the going eases Wiri might win.

Elbejay, Arragon Lad and Clarry could dispute the finish of the second leg, the Cambridge Intermediate Handicap. The track should be fast.
