Tractor Contest
A tractor driving contest. 1 to be decided in the ring at I noon on Friday, will be of; particular interest to country patrons. A course has been drawn up which will test the competitors' ability in reversing, turning, and manoeuvring a tractor and trailer. They will have to negotiate narrow gateways, indicated by markers, and the load on the trailer will be set in such a way that any unsteady driving will cause it to unbalance. Contestants will be judged on their general capabilities. A time factor will also be in operation, but the fastest competitor will not necessarily be the winner. The contests have been particularly popular at past shows with young farmers, and the rules of the competition place an emphasis on skill rather than speed. The tractors and trailers will be supplied by Christchurch business firms.
