Vacation Jobs
Sir, —To quote the report of the Canterbury University liaison officer, Mr E. R. Hounsell, from last year’s figures: “Of the full-time students, 45.2 per cent pass all their subjects, 15 per cent fail all subjects, and 27.9 per cent fail to pass two units.” As a former student of 17 years, I sympathise with students who cannot obtain vacation employment, but as a presentday taxpayer I deplore the combination of these quoted pass figures with a proposed unemployment benefit.— Yours, etc., SPEND WISELY. November 4, 1967.
