MOUNTAIN SEARCH
Biochemist Missing (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 6. A preliminary search has begun in the Tongariro National Park for a man who is thought to have been missing since last Tuesday. He is a 30-year-old biochemist, Mr J. L. Allen, of Epsom, Auckland, who has a history of amnesia. Mr Allen arrived at the Chateau Tongariro on Monday of last week and was seen on the golf course on the following day, but he has not since appeared for meals, although his car and belongings are still at the chateau. The police were not advised of Mr Allen’s disappearance until Sunday evening, and today Senior-Sergeant R. C. Joyce, of Taumarunui, said that search parties were combing the park area under the supervision of the chief ranger (Mr J. W. Mazey). More search parties will move out tomorrow.
Mr Allen is of slim build, sft lOin in height, has brown hair and wears spectacles. He could possibly be wearing a green shirt and black shoes.
