fN.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. Liverpool’s lead at the top of the English first division soccer table was cut to one point on Saturday, after it had been held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur, in a match marred by several clashes between spectators and police. Manchester United, which has a match in hand, and Sheffield Wednesday. Liverpool’s closest challengers, both won and have 20 points. Heavy rainstorms, especially in southern England, led to waterlogged grounds. Nine English League games were postponed and a tenth abandoned after half an hour. In addition to the scenes among the 45,000 Tottenham crowd, a loudspeaker announcement at half-time in the fourth division match between Crewe and Hartlepools stated that a player had been hit by a missile from the crowd. The referee over the loudspeaker warned he would abandon the match if there was a repeat of the incident. Four of the top five clubs in the second division had their matches postponed. The exception was Portsmouth, which moved to top place bv beating Hull City. Walsall and Peterborough, the first two clubs in division three, both lost.
