Canterbury Loses Exciting Bowls

In an exciting game on Saturday morning, Opawa I beat Canterbury I at the Canterbury green in the second round of the ThreeFours bowls competition.

A dramatic turn in the match came when J. Turpin’s Canterbury teams was four up after 17 heads against C. Rowe (Opawa).

Opawa was in a bad position in the eighteenth head, when Rowe delivered a magnificent bowl which just nudged the kitty and pushed It back into a group of Opawa bowls. Opawa won the head 4-up and were all square. Rowe eventually won, 22-19, and Opawa beat Canterbury, 69 61. The reigning champion. Christchurch, lost all games against Morrison Avenue at the Christchurch green, and went down on aggregate, 51-58. Last week, Christchurch also failed to get maximum points, although it beat Spreydon on aggregate. Early morning rain made the greens heavy, but strong winds helped them dry.
