Whirlwind Batting
Big hitting by Pacific Island Cricket Club batsmen enabled them to score at over four runs a minute and declare at 245 for four wickets after only 55 minutes in a third grade C suburban match against Riccarton on Saturday. Only 27 runs of the total did not come in boundaries. One of the openers, P. Fenika. made 117 not out—an innings which included 13 sixes and six fours: and, with I. Bitue (65, including seven sixe£_and three fours) the partnership on .149 Later. D. Taalili hit four sixes and two fours in his score of 34 and L. Toglaso hit two sixes and a four in his 17. In reply to this whirlwind effort, Riccarton could manage only 76 all out in 145 minutes. Because G. Timms could not play he asked his father, Mr T. Timms, a life member of the club in his sixty-fourth year, to take his place. Timms sen. opened the innings and carried his bat for 29.
