Inter-Zonal Chess
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TUNIS. The United States player, R. J. Fischer, on Saturday withdrew from the inter-zone chess tournament in Sousse. No reason was given for the withdrawal. Fischer did not appear to play a fifteenth round game against the Dane, B. Larsen. This was the third game he had lost by forfeit. Before he defaulted his first game. Fischer was leading the tournament. Other results in the fifteenth round were: L. Portisch (Hungary) beat M. Ming Marsuren (Mongolia); L. Barczay (Hungary beat E. Cuellar (Colombia); H. Mecking (Brazil) drew with R. Byrne (U.S.); S. Gligoric (Jugoslavia) drew with E. Geller (Russia); I. Bilek (Hungary) beat O. Sarapu (New Zealand); A Matanovic (Jugoslavia) drew with L. Stein (Russia); M. Matulovic (Jugoslavia) beat L. Kavalek (Czechoslovakia). Adjourned games: D. Suttles (Canada) v. A. Gipslis (Russia): B. Ivkov (Jugoslavia) v. V. Korchnoy (Russia); Bowazig (Tunisia) v. S. Reshevsky (U.S.). In the game adjourned from the fourteenth round, Matulovic beat Sarapu.
