S.I. Marksmen In Competition

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Nov. 5. The Hakataramea marksman, H. C. Walker, took the single rise championship in a shoot-off at the South Island trap shooting championships held in Timaru over the week-end. Walker was awarded the championship on the sixtyfourth bird, where J. McKenzie, of Southland, dropped out. E. H. Jones (Centra! Otago) took third place. Shooters from throughout New Zealand and two from Australia took part in the five championships of the tournament, which was organised by the Timaru Gun Club.

Of the 97 shooters who faced the traps for the single rise championships, 17 shot possibles. They were: D. Campbell (Central Otago), H. A. Jones (Timaru), A. Copland (Timaru), T. L. Begg (Otago), G. A. Halligan (Otago), L. W. Kerr (Rangiora), R. Brown (Geraldine), A. S. Garland (Hakataramea), A. Kemp (Palmerston), J. C. Streeter (Christchurch), E. Baldock (Canterbury), J. McKenzie (Southland), E. H. Jones (Central Otago), N. Howson (Canterbury), H. McDiarmld (Aus-

tralia), and H. C. Walker and A. Walker (Hakatramea). D. Weir (West Coast) won the double rise championship outright with 19 breaks out of a possible 20, followed by D. Cameron (South Otago), W. Brunton (Geraldine), and C. Sonntag (Dunedin), each with 18 birds. Sonntag won the shoot-off for the runner-up position. The single barrel championship was won by L. W. Kerr (Rangiora) after a shoot-off with J. Brightling (Chertsey). Both shot possibles of 25 breaks. Although a strong breeze made accurate shooting difficult, J. McKenzie (Southland) aind A. Walker (Hakataramea), put up outstanding performances in the skeet championship shoot-off, McKenzie taking the first placing. The sparrow championship was won outright by T. Everett, of Christchurch, with 24 breaks out of a possible 25. Second place went to A. Walker (Hakataramea) after a shootoff with L. Kerr (Christchurch), M. A. Mavill (West Coast), and J. Hughes (Geraldine), each having 23 breaks.

Fifteen shooters shot the possible of 20 breaks in the trophy match, the first prize going to J. Begg (Otago) on the thirty-fifth bird, from J. Hughes (Geraldine), J. L. R. Smith (Central Otago), R. Stowell (Timaru), J. McKenzie (Southland), R. Selbie (Timaru), S Muir (Southland), E. Jones /Central Otago). J. Manson (Waimate), T. I. Wills (Fairlie), L. Dasler (Waimate), V. Peterson (West Coast), M. Mairs (Rlversdale), W. Brunton (Geraldine), and H. A. Jones in that order.

The high gun trophy for the best aggregate score over the five championships and the trophy match was won by A. Walker (Hakataramea) with 133 breaks out of a possible 140.
