GOODS FROM RUSSIA

Display In Chch A photographic exhibition of life in the Soviet Union and a display of Russian goods will be held in the Provincial Council Chambers in the coming week. It is being held for the fiftieth anniversary of the Soviet State.

Several crates containing material for the exhibition have been unpacked and arranged by members of the Christchurch branch of the New ZealandU.S.S.R. Society. About 300 photographs in black and white and colour show aspects of life in the Soviet Union. In addition there are prints, paintings and posters, books, pamphlets and maps. Among the goods will be records, handicrafts from the various republics, handpainted jewellery boxes, carved dolls, jewellery, watches, clocks, cameras and binoculars.

The president of the Christchurch branch of the societv (Mr M. Holland) said all the material had been sent to New Zealand from the Soviet Union. He believed it had already been displayed in Auckland.
