RACING Fans And Kenrick Due Tomorrow

Fans and Kenrick, two North Island stayers which will be high on the list of fancied runners for the New Zealand Cup on Saturday, are due at Riccarton tomorrow.

Fans will be flown from Palmerston North with other members of E. Ropiha’s Woodville team. Kenrick and five other horses from the central districts are due to start their journey south today 7.

Fans and Kenrick completed their preparations for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s rich two-mile race in the Hatuma Handicap at Bulls last Saturday.

Fans ran a winning cup trial. But Kenrick, in finishing second, was just as impressive. H. N. Rauhihi, on Fans, saved every inch of ground on his mount, waiting for a rails run, which eventually came. Kenrick's rider, R. B. Marsh, elected to go round the field to improve his position and he was forced four and five wide. Both jockeys were exceptionally pleased by the way in which their cup mounts performed. They told the Palmerston North correspondent of “The Press” after the race that they would not want to swap cup mounts with anyone. Fans might be Ropiha’s only runner in the New Zealand Cup. General Myth, Baloo. Jane Blithe and Rahpete will also be on tomorrow’s flight but Janeviile is not expected to make the trip, says a report from Palmerston North.

General Myth, after two outstanding runs for seconds in the open sprints at Trent-

ham, wlil he one of the favourites for the Stewards’ Handicap on Saturday. Baloo’s New Zealand Cup Day engagement is the Riccarton Handicap, Jane Blithe is top-weight for the Hagley Handicap. Rahpete will be trying to improve the record of Ropiha-trained horses on the course in the Waimairi High-weight Kenrick’s companions on the trip will be Master Brynn, one of his New Zealand Cup rivals, Le Danois, whose main mission is the New Zealand Derby, and two members of C. E. Goss’s Awapuni stable. They are Tainoch and Both Ways. They will cross to Blenheim today and will be quartered there overnight Before continuing to Riccarton later tomorrow they will be worked at Waterlea Racecourse. NOT COMING Gunga Din, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wyndham last Saturday, will not contest the New Zealand Cup. His trainer, J. R. Dowling, said after the race that the Rawalpindi II gelding would be turned out for a spell. Empire King, another form runner from the Dowling stable, will also miss his engagement on New Zealand Cup Day. He is an acceptor for the" Riccarton Handicap.

Although Dowling will not have a runner in the cup he will not be a spectator. The Wingatui trainer-jockey will ride Summer Magic, one of two runners the Gore trainer, E. A. Winsloe, will saddle. Of the New Zealand Derby candidates produced at Wyndham none impressed more than Tulson. This Final Court gelding might have beaten Gunga Din in the Spring Handicap had he not been forced over extra ground at the straight entrance. He ran the winner to a head. It was a first-class trial for Saturday's classic, in which he will be ridden by H. N. Rauhihi. Captain’s Command, another of Dowling’s mounts on Saturday, raised hopes of an Otago victory in the Stewards' Handicap when he outclassed the open sprinters in the Flying Handicap at Wyndham. His six furlongs in Imin 111-5 sec equalled the track record and was only l-ssec outside the Southland record. His winning margin of three-quarters of a length, was inclined to flatter the Dowling-trained runner-up, Empire King.
