Extended Bar Hours
Sir, —I agree with C. E. McGlashan and “Three Hours Short.” Unionism should not be compulsory. Then the union secretaries might have to do some real work in a real job. Give them a short shift.—Yours, etc., ' . SHIFT SHORT. October 16, 1967.
Sir, —If the barmen cannot come to agreement with their employers, the hoteliers’ association, surely they should be replaced. In the next few weeks there will be many hard-working young men from the universities seeking employment. Already there are many students working as part-time barmen, and many others are equally capable.' Perhaps after three months on the dole during the summer vacation, the barmen would be ready to work.— Yours, etc., FOUR FROM 466. October 16, 1967.
