35 Dogs On Property

Thirty-five dogs of registrable age, only 18 of which were registered, were found on a property at 88 Travis Road when an inspection was made in August, the chief city health inspector (Mr A. P. Milltoorpe) reported to the City Council last evening. He was commenting on a petition from 63 Travis Road residents asking that something be done about the keeping of a large number of dogs on the property. The owner could be prosecuted hy the council for failure to register dogs, but fines would probably not result in a reduction in the

number of dogs, Mr Millthorpe said. The residents’ complaints referred tn matters involving civil action by toe persons concerned or by toe police, toe by-laws committee said, and it was understood that police officers had said they had done all they could. The council asked the Police Department for a detailed report on complaints and any action it had taken or felt it could take, especially under the Animals’ Protection Act and the Police Offences Act, both of which gave power for action where dogs were neglected or damage was caused to property.
