CUP CHARTS CHANGE

Tobin Bronze Favourite ’ (Special Crspdt. N.Z.PA.) 1 MELBOURNE. Bookmakers recast markets on - the Caulfield Cup after the de- , feat of New Zealand-bred three-year-old Fileur and a brilliant win by Tobin Bronze at Caulfield on Saturday. 1 Fileur, a clear* cut favourite before Saturday drifted as much as eight points after finishing eleventh in the Caul- ■ field Guineas. i Tobin Bronze, the- beaten , favourite in last year’s Cauli field Cup, again heads the market after winning the Toorak Handicap under 9st 121 b. Some bookmakers have Tobin Bronze an outright favourite for the cup. Others have him sharing favouritism with the New Zealand mare Stellar Belle. Other major cup developments on Saturday were: A good run by General Command in the Herbert Power Handicap. although he was beaten into third place, and a fine effort by Red Handed, which finished second to Tobin Bronze. Fileur, which was backed for a fortune to win the Caulfield Guineas weakened badly after a good start and was well beaten before the home turn. The race was won by Dark Purple from Joking and Post Douglas. Inquiry At - Trentham (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. About a furlong from the finish of the Wellington Guineas at Trentham on Saturday, Bompa (W. D. Skelton) received a sharp check. At the time Bompa was racing about three-quarters of a length behind Manix (J. Riordan) on the inside, and High Delight (H. N. Rauhihi). At an inquiry into the incident evidence was heard from the stipendiary stewards and the riders Skelton and Riordan. A film was also viewed. It was found that Mannix rolled out thereby closing the gap ahead of Bompa, and Skelton was forced to check off the heels of High Delight. Skelton said .he was firmly of the opinion that he would not have beaten either of the two horses which finished ahead of him, in view of the three and a half lengths margin between the second and third. No action was taken with regard to the placings.
