Cruising Club Races
Tawanui, J. N. Macfarlane’s Matangi-designed motor sailer, won the A class race held by the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club on Saturday, but because of a protest may lose the race on a disqualification. Her racing flag was not flown correctly. The club’s opening day was held on Saturday, and the commodore, Mr E. Ackroyd, said that with 50 B class boats, 35 A class, and a growing Flying Fifteen class, the club should expect a highly competitive and successful season. Among the new boats that were impressive in Saturday’s races were Tactile, an oceangoing trimaran, and Apiti, owned and built by R. A. Johnstone. Results of races were: A Class.—Tawanui (J. N. MacFarlane) 1, Ruakuri (R. K. God frey) 2, Tucana (C. A. Dickey and C. Bulst) 3. B Class.—Manu Pupru (B. A. Searell) 1, North Wind (D. R Matheson) 2, Sylvie (G. Burns) and N. E. Taylor) 3. Flying Fifteens.—Rhythm (R. G. Moon) 1, Kestrel (R. M. Coop) 2.
