MATCH PLAYED AT ASHBURTON
Anderson’s XI Wins On First Innings Conditions at the Ashburton Oval on Sunday were perfect when the Ashburton openers went to the wicMet for their one-day game against Mr W Mt D. Anderson's eleven. Although the highest .score in the innings was only 24. the Ash ; burton batsmen looked competent enough and were not over, aw-ed by their more Illustrious opposition, although beaten ou the first Innings. I. G. Lane. R. Horttn, B. White and B. V. Samson all made useful scores and Ashburton declared with 153 for nine. s' R. C. Motz was the best of the visiting bowlers and produced a lot of fire on a reasonably placid wicket. B. S'. Taylor and J. C. Alabaster were accurate, but not as likely to take wickets. All three settled well into eightball overs and generally showed good early season form. G. T. Dowling and M. Poore opened briskly and although some shots were risky they pushed the score to 40 before Poore was out l.b.w. to a medium paced delivery from E. C. Smith. Dowling, obviously a form batsman, stroked his way to 00 In only 61 minutes, and B. W. Sinclair played two delicate cuts bcfore-Jie fell victim to a brilliant catch by Sampson. Hl» fellow Welllngtontan. P. T. Barton, added charm to the game with some beautiful drive,, while Taylor thrilled the crowd by hitting 34 runa in 17 minutes. The fact that only one marden over waa bowled In the whole innngs allowed that the bowlera were attacked all the time. Scoreboard: ASHBURTON First Innings D. Isherwood, c Ward b Motz 7 I. G.
