News Media Criticised

New Zealand’s news media haj developed a “fear comptex" In the average citizen ovej the' country’a economic situation, the president of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce (Mr L J. Drabble) said Mr Drabble said some of the causes relevant, to the hardening of New Zealand’s economic situation could be attributed to the news media. Frees, radio and television reports had in the maln been very negative and reflected a type of attitude “which is to be deplored," ho said. = .“&> so doing, the hews ihedla have unwittingly rendered a grave disservice to industry and commerce, and to the citizens of this country,” Mr Drabble said. “Factual reporting is always respected but it need not be presented in such a manner that its end product is tbe engendering of. a fear complex By the- reader or ' listener.”
