SUPREME COURT Eighteen Months Gaol For Burglary, Assault
fmpostng in the Supreme Court yesterday a total term of 18 months imprisonment on Daniel Tinirau, aged 35, a timber worker, Mr Justice
Macartour told him he should realise he had been given a lenient sentence.
This leniency, said his Honour, was in recognition of toe effort made by Tinirau, who had a bad record for crimes of violence, to keep out of trouble since his marriage tai 1964. “It is very disappointing
to find you now before toe court. I hope this will be the last occasion,” said his Honour.
Counsel's Submission Mr B. A. Hunt, for Tinirau, submitted that toe assault, made to facilitate Tinirau’s getaway when two men detected him burgling Hobday's Electrical Service, Ltd, on : August 3,’was not a vicious ; one of its kind, but his Hoh- ; our said it was by no means trifling. “Burglary and aggravated assault cannot be treated lightly,” said his Honour. “But ’ I am going to give as much ' credit for' his effort over re- ’ cent yean as lean."
