DAVIS CUP
Spain May
Be Venue
(N.ZPA.-Reuter—Cfpvrlght) NEW DELHI.
India yesterday proposed Spain as the neutral venue for its Davis Cup inter-zone lawn tennis tie with South Africa, it was announced in New Delhi. Mr R. K. Khanna, secretary of the All-India Lawn Tennis Association, sent a telegram to the South African Davis Clip captain, Mr C. Lister, in London, proposing the tie be played in Spain, either from November 3-5 or November 10-12.
The two countries have been negotiating for more than two weeks to find a mu-tually-acceptable neutral venue. India has ground advantage for the tie hut because it has no diplomatic relations with. South Africa, elected to play in a neutral country. Mr Khanna’s message followed a cable from Mr Lister bn Thursday in which he suggested either Spain or New Zealand as the venue. The winner of the tie will meet Spain in the inter-zone final for the right to play Australia, the holder in the challenge round, and Indian officials considered that experience of Spanish courts would be advantageous.
