Six Spectators Killed

(N.Z P A.-Reuter —Copyright) LAS PALMAS (Canary Islands), October 13. Six spectators were killed and 18 injured when an Alfa-Romeo ear, swerving to avoid a small girl who wandered on to the track, plunged into the crowd at a 12-hour motor race in Las Palmas yesterday. The car ripped through the barrier” and somersaulted through the crowd, eyewitnesses said.

The Spanish driver, Paul Sanchez Gil, escaped unharmed. So did the' small girl, who wandered in front of the car as it was travelling at 110 m.p.h. along the track. Five of the victims died instantly. The other died in hospital. Six of the injured, including two children, are in a serious condition. The race, in which 35 local drivers were taking part, was suspended.
