More funds this year have enabled the Sutherland Self Help Trust Board to distribute to more charitable organisations than it has in the past Intellectually Handicapped Children Societies throughout New Zealand have benefited by $20,500; Birthright and the
Plunket Society have each been given $lO,OOO. Ninety charitable, medical and educational organisations have had $96,000 distributed to them this , year. Among the grants was $5OO for the Strongman Mine Disaster Fund. Grants made to organisations within "The Press” circulation

Social services and children's homes: Presbyterian Social Services, Tlmaru. SlOOO towards extension of children’s home; Methodist Central Mission, Christchurch, 31000 towards home for aged; Methodist Children’s Home, Christchurch, 31000 towards family home unit; Cholmondeley Home, Christchurch, 31000 for general repairs; Sunnybank Home, Nelaon. 3500 towards equipment. Youth organisations: Youth Hostels Association of New Zealand, Christchurch, WOO towards equipment; Girl Guides. Christchurch, 31000 towards renovations; Scouts and guides, Stoke, 3500 towards den; Weston scouts and Cuba. Oamaru, SHOO towards den. Calvary Hospital, Christchurch, 11000 towards equipment.
