Archbishop On N.Z. Immigration
(N ZP. A.-Reuter—Copyright) YORK (England), October 11. Australia and New Zealand should urgently revise their immigration policies, the Archbishop of York (Dr Donald Coggan) said yesterday.
In his presidential address to the Convocation of York, he said:
“To continue to think in terms of England as the centre of the world, to continue to think in terms of White domination, to continue to be insular-minded, is to bury one’s head in the sand and to be totally unaware of the vast forces which vie for power in a world whose inequalities cry to heaven for redress,” .he said. Appalling Chasm
He recalled his recent visit to India, Malaysia, Singapore
and Borneo, where he saw the “appalling chasm” between the affluent society and the misery of life in Asia and elsewhere.
"The problems which face our politicians in the light of these matters are great and complex,” Dr Coggan said.
“If I mention the extent of aid which the West should give to the poor nations, and the extent to which countries like New -Zealand and Australia should revise their immigration policies, I touch on only two of the most urgent.”
