HIPPIELAND RAIDED
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 10. Police arrested 36 hippies in a daylight raid yesterday. Police walking five abreast on either side of the street in the city’s Haight-Ashbury district—the heart of Hippleland—picked up anyone who looked as though he ought to be in school on suspicion of playing truant But 17 were released when police established they were over school age or were not truants. The police chief, Mr Thomas Cahill, said there would be further similar raids bn the Haight-Ashbury district until there were no longer “numerous juveniles roaming the streets.”
