(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) KHARTOUM, Sept. 1. President Abdullah Sallal of the Yemen yesterday issued a statement amounting almost to a flat rejection of the Egyptian and Saudi Arabian agreement aimed at ending the five-year Yemeni civil war. The republican leader left himself a tiny loophole by
adding that his Government was eager to abide by any proposals that might strengthen fraternal relations among the Arabs. President Nasser and King Feisal of Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday agreed to withdraw their respective support from the republicans and royalists in the Yemen and allow the people to choose the Government they want Neither republicans nor royalists were at the negotiations and yesterday President Sallal, who is attending the Arab Summit in Khar-
toum, expressed his displeas; ure. Without specifically referring to the Egyptian-Saudi Arabian agreement, he said that “any attempt to jeopardise the independence and sovereignty of the Yemen is considered a flagrant intervention in the country’s domestic affairs and an open breach of international law.” Earlier the Yemeni Foreign Minister, Mr Abdel Aziz Salam, while not dismissing the agreement, told reporters that his Government could not consider itself bound by any decisions with which it had not been associated and which it had not signed.
