Gunga Din, a decisive winner at his second start in open company at Gore last week, showed his fitness for the Tally Ho Handicap when he worked well at Wingatui yesterday. Gallops were held on the course proper with the trestles 50 feet out. The track was cutting out. Gunga Din (C. Chettleburgh) ran four lengths clear of Empire Way (J. R. Dowling) at the end of half a mile in 53 3-ssec, the opening furlong in 12 4-ssec.
Sailor’s Flight (A. Robinson) and Castle Flight (J. Carvalho) were not extended in 55 2-ssec, the first furlong in 13sec. The best five furlongs was recorded by Donald Mac (E. J. Didham) and Farmer’s Girl (B. P. Kennedy) in Imin 6 2-ssec, the first two furlongs in 26sec.
Bompa Best At Wanganui “The Press" Special Service WANGANUI. The three-year-old, Bompa, impressed at Wanganui yesterday when he easily beat Bostock and Destriere over half a mile. The track was quite heavy and times were not fast. Working on the No. 1 grass, Bompa (Cleaver) was galloping effortlessly ahead of Bostock (Waaka) and Destriere (Messent) at the end, taking 51 2-ssec, the last three in 38 Dunraven (Constable) finished beside Grapevine (Messent) at the end of five furlongs in 65 2-ssec, the last three in 40sec. Town Guard (Strawbridge) and Justify were well matched over a round, coming from the half-mile in 55 2-ssec, the last three in 41 l-ssec.
