Red Cross Remits
The Dominion Council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society yesterday approved a remit requesting that the society’s executive “investigate and take all possible steps to cause the inclusion in the education system of teaching on international understanding and friendship, and on health and hygiene, first aid and home nursing.” Among other remits approved was one asking that a project within New Zealand be adopted by the Red Cross. A remit asked for the Post Office to have the Red Cross slogan on all mail-cancelling machines during May of each year to publicise the Red Cross Week.
Hedge Fire.—One machine from Sockbum and one from Harewood were called to a hedge fire in a vacant section in Withells road about 1.30 p.m. yesterday. The fire destroyed part of the hedge.
