HONG KONG AGITATOR SHOT

fN.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HONK KONG, Aug. 30. A Hong Kong policeman shot down a leftwing agitator last night in a new flare-up of street demonstrations.

The man was shot dead when police opened fire on an angry crowd of about 800 people who had gathered in Kowloon, near Kai Tak International Airport. They had to use tear-gas to disperse the mob. Nine people were arrested. Later it was announced that Mr Lam Kwong-hoi, victim of a terrorist attack last Thursday, died in hospital in the early hours of this morning. Mr Lam and his cousin, a leading radio personality, Mr Lam Bun, were doused with petrol in their car and set alight by a group of attackers. Mr Lam Bun lived only a day. In recent months he had broadcast anti-Communist, satirical sketches over the colony’s commercial radio. Earlier, police raided the Hong Kong Metal Workers’ Union premises in nearby Tokwawan district, arrested two women found inside, and seized some offensive weapons.

On the roof they found suspected petrol bombs, more weapons, and inflammatory posters. After the death of Mr Lam Bun at the week-end, a Communist underground paper threatened to kill six other

prominent Government offi-i cials and citizens. Police took- stringent security precautions when the I

(Legislative Council met yesterday. Two councillors were on the “death list” But there were no incidents.
